Simpang Mengayau known as the tip of Borneo is the northernmost tip of Borneo located in Kudat, Sabah. The tip is one of Sabah’s popular tourist attractions, with a breathtaking view looking out to the South China Sea.
Over 50 species of birds have been recorded here. Some species to look out for are the Christmas Island Frigratebird, Black-Naped Fruit Dove, Ashy Minivet, Blue-Rock Thrush, Brown Shrike, Peregrine Falcon and many more species may end up at the Tip during migratory season.
BIRDing locations + trails
The best place for birding at the Tip will be taking an early morning walk along the roadside and also on the rock cliffs searching for the Blue-Rock Thrush and other migratory species.
Accommodation is not a problem here as there are many homestays available along the beach leading up to the Tip of Borneo.
The Tip is located approximately 180 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu via a sealed road.
