How to Reach the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC)

Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) is located at the end of Jalan Fabia, off Jalan Sepilok, before the Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre. The junction is clearly market with a signboard. If coming by public bus, ask the driver to the stop at the corner of Jalan Fabia, before Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre and walk 700 m to reach RDC. Private local taxis from RDC back to Sandakan can be arranged by the staff at the Visitor Building.

How to Reach Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre

Both the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre and the adjacent Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre are located at the northern edge of the Kabili-Sepilok Forest, at the end of Jalan Sepilok, around 25 km from Sandakan.

A taxi from Sandakan city will cost around RM40 and take around 30-40 minutes. Taxis can also be taken directly from Sandakan airport (connected with Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Kuala Lumpur), a trip of around 20-30 minutes costing RM40.

Currently, a bus marked “Sepilok Batu 14” leaves on the hour from 9 am until 2 pm from the bus station near the Sandakan market at the waterfront; the last bus leaves Sepilok for the return trip at 4 pm, with the fare RM4 one way. This bus service is subject to change, so check first with the Sandakan Tourist Information Centre (Wisma Warisan Tourist Information Centre, near Sandakan Municipal Council, telephone +60 89-229751).

How to Reach Sepilok Laut Mangrove Discovery Centre

Permission to visit the mangrove area on the southern side of the Kabili-Sepilok Virgin Jungle Reserve may be obtained at the ticketing office counter of the Visitor Building at the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Permits cost RM5 per person, and application at least one day in advance is required. It is also possible to book via email at rdcsepilok@yahoo.com, but payment must be made before departure.
Visitors can arrange for a Forestry Department speedboat to take them from the jetty at Batu Sapi, in Sandakan, on a half-hour trip to the Mangrove Discovery Centre (current price RM150 one-way per boat).
